SES Conference Coimbra

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to inform you that the registration process for the  12^th International Conference of the Society for Emblem Studies-Muta Poesis, Pictura loquens is open. The Conference will be held in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra (Portugal), from 25 to 30 July 2022.

We received proposals from 33 different countries, spread across the 5 continents. It is expected to be a great opportunity to discuss emblem studies and the topic you suggested will certainly contribute to make it memorable!

Some papers will be considered for publication, accordingly to a process of peer review. (Deadline to send the final version of the text: 30 September 2022).

Please find attached some information concerning registration and accommodation in Coimbra. Be aware that if you are planning to deliver a paper, so have to register as a Speaker. If you are a member of the Society for Emblem Studies, you should select the option SES/CIEC Member speaker, which means a reduced fee.

All payments will be done through the Online Store – University of Coimbra. The regular period for registration will be open from 1 April 2022 to 15 May 2022. We kindly ask you to complete your registration as soon as possible. Your collaboration will be much appreciated and it can really make a difference in what concerns logistic arrangements!  In order to validate your payment, follow the process and, finally, send an email to gf@uc.pt with a bank statement or an ATM receipt, indicating your order number in the email’s subject. This document must contain the value and date of the transfer, as well as the account number from which the transfer was made. Sending this document is mandatory so the services may properly identify your payment. No receipt shall be issued until the University receives it.

Programme Information

There will be more than 170 papers in four parallel sections. We are currently working on the conference book, which will include the abstracts in English and in the speaker’s language (German, Italian, Portuguese, French, Spanish). The guide will be printed and published online.

The excursion on Wednesday, 27 July 2022, will take us to two emblematic places near Guimarães (World Heritage City) and the Church of Nossa Senhora do Terço in Barcelos, which was part of an old Benedictine monastery dating from the eighteenth century.

The Conference Dinner will take place on Thursday, 28 July 2022, at the Courtyard of the College of Santo António da Pedreira, in the neighborhood of the University.
